Mart ayına kadar Omicron varyantının Avrupa’da yaşayanların yüzde 60’ını enfekte edeceği tahmininde bulunan Kluge, “Bölgenin salgında bir anlamda son oyununa doğru ilerliyor olması olasılığı var. Önümüzdeki haftalar ve aylarda ya aşı ya da insanların enfeksiyon nedeniyle bağışıklığı olması sayesinde ve mevsim koşulları da dikkate alındığında küresel bir bağışıklık olacak. Covid-19'un yıl sonuna doğru geri gelmesinden önce bir sessizlik dönemi olacağını tahmin ediyoruz, ancak pandeminin mutlaka geri gelmesi de şart değil.” dedi. ABD’nin ünlü bilim insanı Anthony Fauci, hafta içinde buna benzer bir iyimserlikle konuşarak, ABD’de Covid-19 vakalarının sert bir şekilde düşüşe geçtiği ve durumun daha iyiye gittiğini aktarmıştı.
